Summary and Conclusions

 

  1. A procedure for well data collection and preparation for use in Arcview has been developed here.

  2. Potentiometric maps can be easily constructed using the "Spatial Analyst" extension in Arcview.

  3. Potentiometric maps and water level data can be used to depict the current status or past trends in an aquifer. 

 

Problems Encountered

 

  1. The longitudes and latitudes in the TWDB files must be converted to decimal degrees.

  2. The water level entries are in a separate file from the well location and elevation data that must be merged.

Where to go from here?

 

The process developed here should be used to predict how an aquifer will respond to pumping or climate change possibly with the available Arcview tools or in conjunction with a groundwater model such as MODFLOW.
