Biography

Matt was an undergraduate student at Portland State University, Oregon, which rests cozily within the Cascades of the majestic Pacific Northwest. From PSU he received a B.S. in Mathematics and Civil and Environmental Engineering (double major). Matt craved sunshine and applied then was accepted to the Cockrell School on Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin where he is currently trying to complete an M.S. in environmental engineering.

Research

Matt is currently trying to describe the effects of soil vapor intrusion as a mode of contaminant transport into the indoor air environment. Specifically, he is attempting to describe this exposure route via field sample data analysis at a site in North Texas that rests atop groundwater contaminated with trichloroethylene. Additionally, he has been developing a screening model to be used with soil vapor data near the substructure of a dwelling with a crawlspace to quantify the concentrations of volatile organics in the indoor air.

Recreational Research
Concepts of sustainable living in the urban environment such as grey water recycling, composting human waste, rainwater harvesting and permaculture. International development.
