Beam Menu

[Geometry] constructs a finite element model of a beam or a plate after taking geometric data, material properties and mesh data as an input.

[ End 1 ] is the left end of a beam.

Web height is the distance from the bottom of the top flange to the top of bottom flange as shown below

[ End 2 ] is the right end of a beam.

Offset Distance is the height difference of the top edge of the web at both ends.
Set End 2 = End 1 copies the cross sectional data of end 1 to that of end 2.

[ Material ] sets the material properties of the plates and stiffeners.

[ Mesh ] sets the number of finite elements in longitudinal and in transverse direction.

If the web depth of End 1 is different from that of End 2, selecting [ Proportional Size of Elements ] makes the size of element to be proportional to the web depth along the length.
Aspect ratios of plate elements should be kept less than 2.
