Flowing
stream in Northern CyprusThe USAID Support for Activities that Value the Environment (SAVE) addresses the gap between the Turkish Cypriot Community (TCC) and the Greek Cypriot Community (GCC) with the experience and capabilities to meet the economic and political challenges of the global economy. One of the major themes of SAVE is Environmental and Natural Resources Management and Capacity Building. Improving management of critical environmental resources and systems, especially water-related systems, is one of the main tasks of the project. This includes: (1) strengthening capacity of environmental managers to make better decisions for water management based on scientific studies such as wellhead and water resources analysis, groundwater modeling and water quality testing; (2) utilization of informational tools in assessment and modeling applications, including a growing intergation and use of GIS; and (3) improving the management of water resources used for irrigation of field crops and orchards. Dr. Daene McKinney has worked on SAVE Task 1 activities in Water Resources Management.
