Using ArcView as a User Interface for naUTilus

Work Update - OSBL

This document is a supplement to Using ArcView as a User Interface for naUTilus, written as the term project document for CE397 - GIS in Water Resources. It describes work done on my research project since the end of the 1997 Spring semester. Note that all work discussed in this document relates to the OSBL portion of the model. Much of it has been adapted from scripts written for the ISBL portion of naUTilus

• Altered some of the scripts written for ISBL to fit OSBL needs.
  Several scripts were altered to fit the needs of OSBL and some new scripts were created. Different versions were necessary as the requirements for an OSBL unit differ from those for an ISBL unit. The set up of each is different in terms of ventilation and input sites in particular.

  Scripts created or altered from ISBL versions:
  

  • JUNCTION
    This script is based on the ISBL script SORTPOINT. It determines which nodes are not numbered in the naUTilus numbering system. It is applied in conjunction with SELJUNC from a tool.

  • SELJUNC
    This script allows the user to click on nodes which represent junctions with no ventilation (i.e. no manhole).

  • INFLNODE:
    The script INFLNODE allows the user to click on nodes where flow enters at a node, not at a branch.

  • OSORTPT
    This script, along with JUNCTION, perform the same tasks as the ISBL script SORTPOINT. Due to differences between OSBL and ISBL systems, it was necessary to split the tasks into two separate scripts.

  • OSBLCONN
    This script creates part of the input file needed for naUTilus.

  • OBRTAB
    This script creates the portion of the OSBL naUTilus input file dealing with branch characteristics (length, slope, diameter).

  • OSELBR
    This script allows the user to select individual branches for which to edit characteristics. It runs as the Apply event with the OBRTAB Click event.

  • OINFLOW
    This script is the temporary version by which data on inflow to the OSBL system is entered. As inflow comes from individual ISBL units, when ISBL and OSBL are connected, this script will be altered.

  • OFLOWSEL
    This script, run as the Apply event with the OINFLOW Click event, allows the user to input data on inflow to the OSBL system. As with OINFLOW, this will change as the connection between OSBL and ISBL is made.

  These scripts, and those mentioned previously, constitute the majority of those needed to create an OSBL naUTilus input file. Documentation on these scripts will be posted at a later time.

• Map of OSBL network corrected.
  When the script OSBLCONN was run on the example OSBL network, some errors in the map were found. Those errors were corrected in ARCEDIT.

• Updated documentation

• Created the script OSBLINP
  This script is adapted from the ISBL version WRITEINP. It creates the input file needed to run naUTilus.
