Cross section of the K-65 silos. One particularly difficult aspect of reconstructing this source of radon was the fact that the K-65 material changed consistency over the years, and very little data existed on the radon concentration being released or in the head space. The silos were vented to the atmosphere until 1979, when they were sealed and the radon source term was substantially reduced.
