The Center for Environmental Resource Management in Latin America (CERMLA) is looking for a second team member for the Urban Information Management Project in Santiago, Chile. The first team member is Cecelia Coleman, a joint degree ILAS/LBJ student. If you are interested, please respond by sending a resume, cover letter, and copy of all graduate transcripts to Cecelia Coleman at CERMLA, as soon as possible. CERMLA's mailbox is in the ILAS reception area (top right-hand side when facing boxes). We expect the project to begin in September. The project partners are the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the City of Santiago (Office of the Mayor), the University of Chile, and the University of Texas. The two team members would be expected to stay one to two months in Santiago, Chile and to attend preliminary training sessions at UNITAR headquarters in New York and Clark University in Worcester, MA. Funding is available under a National Security Education Program (NSEP)grant that UT received for 1997-1998. The amount available will vary depending on students' qualifications. If you are a UT graduate student and a U.S. citizen with moderate proficiency in Spanish and/or Portuguese and some prior coursework in public or international affairs, you probably meet NSEP requirements. We hope to find a second team member with the following qualifications: significant experience with urban issues and information management, especially electronic information systems, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Internet applications, and Dbase and other information management software. Spanish fluency is required, as well. Call Cecelia at 232-2176 or e-mail her at lpkh667@uts.cc.utexas.edu with questions.
