Color Printing at LRC

CE 397 GIS in Water Resources
University of Texas at Austin

The Civil Engineering Learning Resources Center (LRC) has a color printer. It is possible to print to that printer directly from MacIntosh (Mac) and IBM Compatible (PC) computers. To print something created in UNIX it has to be printed to a postscript file, which can then be printed from a PC (or Mac). Below is the procedure to print stuff created on a PC and UNIX.

PC
  1. Create a Layout of what you want to print in Arcview.
  2. Go to 'Print Manager'.
  3. Select 'Connect to Printer' from the 'Printer' pulldown menu.
  4. Select 'HP_Color' from 'Printserver2'.
  5. Go to Arcview.
  6. Print the Layout.

UNIX
  1. Create a Layout of what you want to print in Arcview.
  2. Check 'Print Setup' on the 'File' menu. 'Postscript' should be selected.
  3. Print the Layout to a file (e.g. perfect.ps).
  4. Go to a PC.
  5. Go to DOS.
  6. Ftp the file from your UNIX account (e.g. ftp alpha61, get perfect.ps, bye).
  7. Type: net use lpt1: \\printserver2\HP_Color
  8. Type: print perfect.ps
