UT Manometer Exercise

The manometer in the previous applet has a closed tank on one side and an open tank on the other, both containing water (gH2O = 9.798 kN/m3). The manometer itself contains mercury (g M = 132.836 kN/m3). The pressure in the closed tank is -67.7 kPa. Using basic fluid principles, solve for the change in height of the manometer fluid once the pressure valve is open and the system reaches equilibrium. In which direction will the mercury level displace? Check you solution using the Manometer Applet.
