I do research in and teach Technical Communication in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.

Technical Communication is a multi-disciplinary field that combines the insights of cognitive psychology, rhetorical theory, visual design, and organizational communication (among other disciplines) for the benefit of all technical professionals who must communicate with a wide variety of audiences.

I also teach courses that focus on the social impact of technology by examining the intersection of technology, gender, power structures, and information systems.
