G. Edward Gibson, Jr. is Professor of Civil
Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He is the Austin Industries Endowed
Teaching Fellow and served as the Associate Chairman for Architectural
Engineering in the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental
Engineering from 2000 to 2003. He holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering
from Auburn University,
an M.B.A. in Engineering Management from the University
of Dallas, and a Ph.D. in Civil
Engineering from Auburn
University. Prior to
joining The University of Texas at Austin
faculty, he served four years as an Engineer Officer in the U. S. Army Corps
of Engineers, three years as an engineer with Texas Instruments, and taught
one year as a Visiting Assistant Professor at North Carolina State
University. His
teaching experience is in Total Quality Management, construction contract
law, construction cost analysis, planning and scheduling, project finance and
planning, computer applications in Civil Engineering, statistics, and
surveying. His research interests include dispute resolution, computer
integrated construction, organizational change, risk management and front end
planning. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and
National Society of Professional Engineers, and is currently President-elect
of the Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) within ASCE. He is a licensed
professional engineer in Texas.
For his work
with both University and industry instructional programs, Dr. Gibson was
given the 2002 National Society of Professional Engineering, Sustaining
Universities Program, Engineering Education Excellence Award.
