2008 Jefferson Science Fellow at the US Department of State

Dr. Chandra Bhat was selected to the prestigious 2008 Jefferson Science Fellow (JSF) program coordinated by the US Department of State.  The JSF program was established in 2003 to engage the American academic Science, Technology, and Engineering (STE) community in the formulation of the U.S. government's foreign and domestic policy.  Dr. Bhat was selected for his expertise on important global policy issues related to transportation, and its association with energy, economics, global climate, security, and the environment.  Selection into the JSF is based on a national level evaluation by a scientific panel constituted by the National Academies to select a group of finalists, followed by an in-person final interview with another panel of National Academy and State Department personnel.  Dr. Bhat was one of eight scientists from all STE fields and from all over the U.S. to be selected to the 2008 JSF program.  Chandra is the first transportation professor to be selected as a JSF.
