'Eyes of Texas' sung at Spring Commencement The final singing of "The Eyes of Texas" at the end of the Spring Commencement is a memory that lasts forever in the hearts of parents and alumni.

Beginning college is an important step to adulthood and to independence from parents. Parents continue to be concerned about their students, and students continue to need their parents! However, as university students they are responsible for navigating through the many aspects of obtaining a degree. The faculty and staff in Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering (CAEE), the Cockrell School of Engineering (CSE), and the University are concerned about your students, and we provide assistance and guidance to your student throughout their college years.

An event of interest to parents and students that our faculty and staff participate in is Family Weekend. For parents and their enrolled students, Family Weekend is a fun event and a great time to visit the University and the City of Austin. Family Weekend is a University event hosted each fall by Texas Parents. Texas Parents is the Parents’ Association of the University of Texas at Austin, whose mission is to support the needs of students and their parents. At Family Weekend, parents are able to attend various university events and Cockrell School of Engineering and engineering departmental meetings. Parents will have the opportunity to visit with representatives of the University, Engineering Student Services divisions, faculty, and academic advisors. Additional information on Family Weekend is available from Texas Parents.

For admitted freshmen about to enter the University, parents are invited to attend Family Orientation, which is part of New Student Orientation. Family orientation occurs on the first day of each freshmen orientation session and is planned each year by New Student Services, a division of the Office of the Dean of Students. Additional information is available from Texas Parents.
