Transportation Alumnus Named Chile's Minister of Public Works

Hernan de Solminihac Tampier (MSCE 1986, PhD 1992), Dean of Engineering at the Universidad Catolica de Chile, has been named Chile's Minister of Public Works by newly-elected President Sebastian Pinera. In a ceremony marred by a magnitude-6.9 earthquake and subsequent aftershocks, De Solminihac was sworn into office on March 11, 2010 after the swearing in of President Pinera.
Dr. W. Ron Hudson was de Solminihac's supervising professor for both the MS and PhD.
