Sezgin Kucukcoban, a structural engineering graduate research assistant, won the Student Paper Competition for Best Paper in Computational Mechanics, held at the Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI) 2010 Conference in Los Angeles, California. His paper was entitled "A hybrid formulation for transient wave simulations in unsplit-field PML-truncated heterogeneous media."
Sezgin received the award at the conference banquet on August 10, 2010. The conference provides a major forum for the exchange of ideas and discussion of recent developments in all mechanics and materials research fields. Researchers, engineers, industry representatives, public officials, and all others who have an interest are invited to attend and participate.
