Federico Aguayo, has been selected as a “Scholar of the Week” for the week of December 13 -December 19, 2010. Federico is a senior majoring in civil engineering and is a 2010 HENAAC- Chevron scholarship recipient. The Scholar of the Week is a weekly feature on the Great Minds in STEM website, www.greatmindsinstem.org, which individually highlights students selected from the pool of 2010 HENAAC Scholarship Recipients. Besides being featured on the website, scholars are presented as student role models to elementary, junior and high students at our various outreach programs.

He is currently employed as an undergraduate research assistant with the Construction Material Research Group/Concrete Durability Center. Federico also has work experience as a Technician Assistant for the Cockrell School of Engineering at UT. Additionally, he completed a two semester long research project as part of the Texas Research Experience Program (TREX). He made a lasting impression on his research supervisor who says he is “the best undergraduate researcher that I have ever supervised or encountered in my twelve years in academia”. Federico worked in the materials lab on a project related to calcium aluminate cements (high-early strength cements used for rapid infrastructure repair), and performed work that was comparable to that of graduate students in the program.
