The recommended application due dates for submitting materials for admission are January 15 for the fall and summer semesters and October 1 for the spring semester.  For applicants seeking financial aid, these dates should be regarded as the final deadline. Decisions on financial aid for the fall semester begin by mid January, and applicants are strongly encouraged to submit all materials by that date.  If students with outstanding records miss the deadline, they are encouraged to apply at any time because it is sometimes possible to make special arrangements for excellent students.

Applications are only accepted through the on-line electronic application system.  When one begins the on-line application, an application number and server space is assigned so that the applicant can access and work on the application as many times as desired until he or she is ready to submit.  Only after the application is submitted, do UT staff and faculty have access to the information. Please note: The major code for Civil Engineering is 621700.

Some materials (e.g., transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a resume, if included) must be submitted in paper form.  One may download recommendation forms via the following link:  www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/giadownload/.  Completed forms should be mailed to:

Mail one original, official transcript directly to the Graduate and International Admission Center (GIAC) which does the first processing of applications and evaluation of the transcript before releasing them to the Department for faculty decision.  Send a photocopy of your transcript directly to the Graduate Coordinator at the address above.  Official GRE and TOEFL scores must be sent directly from ETS to GIAC.  The ETS code for UT Austin is 6882; the departmental codes are: 1102 for GRE and 65 for TOEFL.
