A $235 million research budget in 1997-98 helped UT Austin investigators
explore everything from ancient Mayan hieroglyphics to robots performing
tasks too hazardous for humans. Our research facilities are
among the best in the United States. Eighty-seven organized
research units are complemented by interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary
research programs.
Our facilities include the J.
J. Pickle Research Campus - a 475-acre tract that houses 21
science, engineering and archeology laboratories - and extensive
computer facilities. These include access to mainframe terminals,
microcomputers and a Cray T3E supercomputer linked on a high-speed
communications network. All of these computers are available
to academic departments and research centers, as well as to faculty,
staff and students.
