Ph.D., Cornell University, Environmental Engineering, 1990
Dr. McKinney's research interests include planning and management of water resources, especially integrated management considering engineering, economic, environmental and political considerations in transboundary basins, developing and applying numerical methods for simulation, optimization, and uncertainty analysis of water resources planning and management problems, and the development of laboratory and field experimental techniques for the characterization and remediation of aquifer and groundwater contamination.
He is currently engaged in research on: (1) regional planning of water resources; (2) optimizing the design and operation of remediation systems to cleanup aquifers contaminated by single- or multiphase constituents; (3) development of parallel algorithms for flow in porous media; (4) the use of tracers to characterize and surfactants to remediate contamination in aquifers; and (5) development of hydrologic models for large scale water resources assessments and planning. page.
