Dr. Malina's teaching activities include water and wastewater engineering,
treatment plant design, biological wastewater treatment, sludge
treatment and disposal, solid waste engineering and management,
and industrial waste treatment. His research focuses on biological
treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater, sludge and solid
wastes as well as best management practices for control of pollution
from highway runoff and non-point sources Current research focuses
on factors affecting the elimination of indicator organisms and
pathogens during aerobic sludge digestion and composting; leachate
recirculation to enhance bio-stabilization of solid wastes and gas
production in municipal landfills; impact of highway construction
and highway runoff on water quality, the application of compost
manufactured topsoil and erosion control compost to control and
treat runoff on highway rights-of-way, and characterization of bridge
runoff.
